Staff report
Ethan Jackson had a two-run, inside-the-park home run in the first inning and that sparked the Laurel Hill baseball team to a 7-5 win over Malone on Tuesday in the Class A regional quarterfinals.
It was the Hoboes' first playoff win since 1982, and Laurel Hill will travel to Paxton on Friday for the regional semifinals.
"It was a big win for us," Laurel Hill coach Ronnie Smith said.
Jeremy Henley also drove in two runs, while Jon Lyons and Ryan Simmons each had an RBI. Jace Smith contributed two hits.
The Hoboes scored four runs in the first and three more in fourth. Malone rallied with four in the sixth, but that was as close as it would get.
