FWB girls golf wins district title

A day after being rained out, Fort Walton Beach’s girls golf team captured the District 1-2A tournament on Wednesday at Hidden Creek.
The win qualifies the Vikings for the Region 1-2A tournament on Tuesdayy. Choctawhatchee also moves on after finishing third. The teams played just nine holes instead of 18 as originally scheduled.
Crystal Swanson finished second overall with a 40 to lead Fort Walton Beach, while Dana Mattson carded a 46 to finish in a tie for eighth. Alyssa Davis added a 50 and Summer Struzinski had a 51 for a team total of 187.
“It was pretty neat for the kids,” Fort Walton Beach coach Dan Bohannon said. “It was real good for us, and I think the kids had fun. It was close, and we were just hoping to qualify for regionals. It was exciting.”
The Vikings were five better than Pace, which was led by medalist Haley Millsap. The Indians took third with a 196 total, followed by Navarre (221) and Escambia (241).
Lyndsey Chappell was Choctaw’s top finisher, shooting a 42 to place fifth individually. Marlow Garner was 11th after carding a 48, while Miller McInnis had a 52 and Jourdan Perrin 54.
Stevi Pearce was the low scorer for the Raiders with a 50.
